Stinky Sinky

So I’ve got to share this nasty experience, and some advice from our friendly Salt Lake City plumber, in hopes that you won’t ever have to deal with the same thing.  As a family we returned a couple days ago from an awesome 2 week vacation.  Upon entering our home we were immediately greeted with one the the most intense, awful odors ever.  My initial thought was “oh no! Our freezer defrosted!”  That wasn’t it though.  Turned out that we had left unground food in our garbage disposal before leaving.  Because we had been gone for 2 whole weeks it had turned stinky, then hardened so the disposal no longer worked! We ended up replacing the unit and have learned that before leaving on vacation, it’s a good idea to operate your garbage disposal with running water for about 30 seconds to ensure no food is left in the unit.
